Beacon College Approved for Florida’s Step Up Family Empowerment Scholarships

Beacon College has been approved as a state vendor for Florida’s Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA), allowing eligible families to apply scholarship funds toward three of the college’s pre-college readiness programs: Summer for Success, Beacon Foundations, and College Edge.

The FES-UA enables families to personalize the education of their students by directing funds to where they’re needed most. Scholarship dollars can be used for a variety of approved expenses including therapists, specialists, curriculum, private school, a college savings accounts and more.

Approved Programs

Summer for Success

A three-week on-campus immersion experience for high school sophomores and juniors. The program builds skills, confidence, and readiness for the transition to college, while introducing students to independent living and academic expectations.

Summer for Success

Beacon Foundations

A fully online course offering up to 12 college credits per semester through live, multimodal learning. Students receive individualized coaching and academic support to build the skills needed for college success.

Beacon Foundations

College Edge

A two-week, on-campus summer workshop for high school seniors, recent graduates, and transfer students. The program targets self-awareness and skill-building with a focus on academic readiness, executive functioning, and social-emotional development.

College Edge

“For students who learn differently, these unique college readiness programs take on ever greater importance. Now, families can utilize the Family Empowerment Scholarships to ensure their students are prepared with the skills and confidence to enter college and not only succeed academically but also thrive as independent young adults,” said Dale Herold, Beacon’s senior vice president for enrollment management and auxiliary program initiatives.

To use the scholarship at Beacon, Florida families must apply through the Step Up for Students program. In 2025, approximately 112,000 students applied for FES-UA scholarships, which helped students with special needs customize their educational experience.
