Building Trust in Our Community

Beacon College diligently strives to provide the safest possible academic environment for our students. Campus Safety works to sustain an environment that builds trust and enhances the quality of life for our community while minimizing criminal activity. We’re not only here to enforce but also to assist.

Campus Safety encourages all members of the Beacon community to educate themselves about the various types of criminal incidents occurring in the College’s patrol zone. The Campus Safety Services Office is located in the IT/Safety Building on West Meadow Street. A campus safety officer is on duty 24 hours a day and can be reached at 352-638-9799.

Hazing Transparency Report

As required by the Stop Campus Hazing Act, Beacon College publishes a Campus Hazing Transparency Report summarizing findings concerning student organizations established or recognized by the College that have been found responsible for violations of the College’s hazing policy.

The report will be updated no less than twice annually following a final determination that a student organization has violated this policy. The report will include:

  • The name of the student organization
  • A general description of the violation resulting in a finding of responsibility
  • The date the incident was alleged to have occurred
  • The date the investigation was initiated
  • The date the investigation concluded with a finding
  • The date the College provided notice of the finding to the student organization

2025–2026 Academic Year
At this time, no findings of hazing behavior have been reported during this reporting period.

Emergency Preparedness

Communication is a critical factor when it comes to providing a safe campus environment. In order to provide timely communication to the campus community in the event of an emergency, Beacon College employs a student emergency notification system embedded within our campus software service.

This system allows Beacon College to immediately and simultaneously contact each student via their cell or college email. It provides the capability to send important critical information via text format in emergency situations. Examples of emergencies for which the service could be used include: a possible threat on campus, tornado/hurricane warnings, other severe weather alerts, or a safety situation that has forced the closure of a campus facility.

What is it?

The Emergency Alert System is not a general campus notification tool. Beacon College will not be using this system to announce campus events or individual class cancellations. Beacon College will use this service ONLY for situations deemed serious or critical and that pose an immediate, significant threat to the campus community.

How much does it cost?

The service itself is free. Students do not have to pay anything to sign up.

Do students have to sign up?

Students are automatically added to the emergency alert system. Information is not shared with other services and is used ONLY to provide timely notification of emergencies.
