Position Overview
An Orientation Leader is a student leader position within the Beacon College community that strives to spread school spirit. Orientation Leaders play a major role in the official beginning of a student’s college career and are vital to the success of New Student Orientation and Move-in weekend. Orientation Leaders serve as a role model, mentor, and leader to first-year and transfer students, assisting the student and their family with their transition into Beacon College. Orientation Leaders will support the transition of incoming students by educating incoming students on a wide variety of topics and by designing and leading programs/events the week before the start of classes. Time commitment over the week may vary based on need. Applicants should be prepared to work unconventional hours.
Primary Functions
- Participate in training before Orientation Week
- Create and facilitate programming/events for incoming residence students
- Assist in programs hosted by other departments at Beacon College
- Design programs during Orientation that highlight academic advice and social engagement
- Spread Beacon pride and present the institution through a positive lens
- Engage with other Orientation Leaders and students throughout the week
- Help with the move-in process for new and returning students
- Guide new students around campus and provide insight into the Beacon College experience
- Train and educate students on topics including, but not limited to: academics, student engagement, peer engagement, and institutional engagement
- Help students identify and learn about the Life Abundant Pillars
- Other roles as identified by the Director of Student Experience
Responsibilities and Duties
- Attend Orientation Leader Training, both Fall 2025 and Spring 2026
- Perform all primary job functions during New Student Orientation Fall 2025 and Spring 2026
Requirements
- Be enrolled as a full-time student at Beacon College (12 or more credit hours)
- Must be in good academic and judicial/conduct standing
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Must provide two references (one must be from your Learning Specialist)
- Must be comfortable in front of individuals and groups, both students and parents
- Strongly encourage involvement in other organizations, clubs, jobs, etc.
Disclaimers
- Orientation Leaders who live on-campus for the Fall 2025 semester will be permitted to move into their fall housing assignment during Orientation Leader Move-in.
- To be considered for this position, students must be enrolled and return to study at Beacon College for the Fall 2025 semester.
- Priority hiring will be given to those attending Beacon College for the full 2025-2026 academic year.
