OUC representatives Emily Leon and other HR representatives from the company lead a 90-minute informational session for Beacon students in the Compass Center.

Representatives from the Orlando Utilities Commission electrified future jobseekers with a recent on-campus visit to Beacon College.  OUC has announced plans to offer internships to Beacon College students this semester.

The OUC team, led by diversity specialist recruiter Emily Leon, conducted a 90-minute presentation on February 7. The program introduced about 20 students to OUC, the second largest municipal utility in Florida and 14th largest municipal in the nation. OUC provides water and electric service to Orlando, Fla., and portions of Orange County and St. Cloud in Osceola County.

“Beacon College is working hard to expand the number of opportunities for its students,” says Esteban Lopez, director of corporate and academic outreach at Beacon College, America’s first college or university accredited to award bachelor’s degrees primarily to students who learn differently.

OUC plans to return in mid-March to recruit up to three students for internships. As one of the region’s largest employers, OUC manages a robust internship program with more than 60 available positions each summer.

Beacon students soon will receive a link listing of OUC’s available internship openings three days before OUC publicly posts the positions. During that time, they can apply and schedule interviews with an OUC manager.

“The Orlando Utilities Commission is one of Beacon’s latest partners and constitutes a significant step forward towards our efforts to develop a robust base of organizations that provide meaningful internship opportunities to our students,” Lopez says.
