Beacon College offers the best program and best value among schools with programs for students with learning disabilities or other special needs, according to new national ranking.
Beacon College was rated No. 1 in BestValueSchools.com’s ranking of the “20 Best Value Colleges for Students with Learning Disabilities 2017-2018.” The website rates universities, colleges, and degree programs for the best return on investment.
Other schools on this year’s list include American University, Marist College, and Hofstra University.
“Today, America’s colleges and universities are propelled, if not unified, by two all-consuming ambitions: a dedication to continuous academic improvement, and the enhancement of a solid return on the undergraduate investment for collegians and their families,” said Beacon President George J. Hagerty. “For students who learn differently, these pursuits by institutions of higher learning are even more compelling priorities. That Beacon College has earned the distinction of being ranked No. 1 nationally in this arena by the respected and data-driven BestValueColleges.com for our return on investment for our students is a telling indicator of the seriousness of purpose with which all at Beacon take our daily work.”
BestValueSchools.com appraised the best programs for students who learn differently using the National Center for Education Statistics’ Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System to pinpoint institutions at which more than five percent of undergraduates formally were registered with the office of disability services. The website also compared graduation rates using NCES data. It further narrowed the list by comparing program services, unique resources, and opportunities.
In compiling its ranking, BestValueColleges.com noted “managing learning disabilities in college represents a unique challenge — for both the students who have them and the schools that want to help. And while colleges and universities in the United States are required by law to offer certain services for students with disabilities, these services only guarantee the bare minimum regarding academic assistance and accommodations.”
The site added, “Fortunately, there are a few schools that have gone above and beyond that minimum threshold.”
Of those, BestValueSchools.com observed, “when it comes to the best colleges for students with learning disabilities, none holds a candle to Beacon College.” Beacon College is the first college or university accredited to award bachelor’s degrees primarily to students with learning disabilities, ADHD, and other learning differences.
The BestValueSchools.com accolade comes on the heels of Beacon College being ranked No. 8 in BestColleges.com’s 2017 ranking of “Best Florida Colleges” (out of 145 colleges in Florida — 85 public and 57 private), and being rated No. 2 in last year’s College Magazine’s “Top 10 Best Colleges for Students with Learning Disabilities.”
