Director of Special Projects

Q: You previously worked for Beacon. What brought you back?

A: When I left Beacon College in 2015 I wanted to explore opportunities in local government. At the City of Mount Dora, in the Planning & Development Office, learning about upcoming municipal growth was interesting. The planning and considerations that a city must ponder when faced with expediential growth is a fascinating process to be a part of and experience. Not unlike the growth we are facing here at Beacon College, it was/is a very strategic course. My choice to leave the city to come back to Beacon College was determined with consideration and the realization that I missed the academic arena. I truly enjoy the collegiate environment and the excitement that this faculty and staff have for our students cannot be matched at any other institution.

Q: What are your responsibilities in your new position?

A: My main focus initially will be assisting with the capital campaign, and doing whatever is necessary for the college to reach its goal of $10 million in order to build the new academic center. Additionally, I will be working on special projects or events that support campus communication and the cultivation and recognition of our donors.

Q: Reflecting on your previous Beacon experience, and the current climate, have you seen changes for the better?

A: I live in Mount Dora, but I had not been back to this side of Leesburg since I left in December 2015. When I first stepped back on campus, I was blown away at the changes that had taken place in such a short time. The beautification projects and the establishment of the new student dorms has been so beneficial to our institution. It was wonderful to see projects that were discussed years ago had come to fruition.

Q: What is the last book you read?

A: It’s been a while since I last read a good novel. Raising teenage boys and going to football and basketball games seems to take away a lot of free reading time. However, I am extremely interested in alternative approach medicine and holistic care and I have been reading a lot of interesting articles and research on stem cell therapy and medical nanotechnology advancements.

Q: Who is your favorite singer/band?

A: I have very eclectic taste when it comes to music. I listen to classical music on the weekends, country music in the car, New Orleans jazz when I’m cooking, and Broadway show tunes in the shower. I love all music in its many forms, and will sing to just about anything (did I hear something about a karaoke night?). If I had to pick a favorite singer of all times, I would have to say Celine Dion — her pitch and range is near perfect. My favorite band goes way back to my high school years as who can beat the legendary Queen.

Q: What is the most recent movie you enjoyed?

A: My 16-year-old son and I are huge superhero geeks. A few weeks ago we went to see “Captain Marvel,” and just recently watched (again) “Avengers: Infinity War.” We are counting the days down to see “Avengers: End Game.”
