Sheryl Nichols 2016 Beacon College admissions counselor Sheryl Nichols has been elected secretary of the Florida Association on Higher Education and Disability, the organization announced this week.

Nichols will serve a two-year term with FL-AHEAD, the state chapter of AHEAD. The global professional organization’s membership develops policy and champions disability issues on their campuses and throughout higher education.

“Sheryl’s interaction and participation as a Beacon professional is key to Beacon building [its] reputation and expertise with state and national college disabilities professionals,” said Dale Herold, vice president of enrollment management at Beacon, the first institution of higher learning accredited to award bachelor’s degrees primarily to students with learning disabilities, ADHD and other learning differences.

In her role as secretary, Nichols will record meeting minutes and curate them in the association’s official annals, notify membership of upcoming events or votes, and oversee the publication of official communications.

Additionally, she will maintain membership records and manage accounts on all association activities.

“I have had the wonderful experience of working with [Beacon] students and families assisting them in navigating their options and opportunities within higher education,” Nichols said. “This collaboration further lends to strengthening the network of members within the AHEAD organization, who are actively engaged in addressing the needs of persons with disabilities.”

Nichols’ term starts July 1.
