Even before Taylor Swift affirmed in song that “haters gonna hate,” hate-group-fueled odium long had been rising in America’s throat like hot bile.
In a recent report, the Southern Poverty Law Center, which tracks American hate groups — found the number of hate groups active nationally rose by four percent in 2017, up to 954 from 917 in 2016.
Published by Twenty-First Century Books, Exposing Hate: Prejudice, Hatred, and Violence in Action defines hate groups, chronicles their mushrooming numbers, demarcates hate speech and hate crimes, and explores tactics for combatting hate.
Marsden notes, in part, that “fear of the unknown, fear of what might happen and fear of anything that’s different than you or falls outside your definition of what’s supposed to be normal” nurtures this breed of hate.

Exposing Hate is the second book quoting Marsden, an assistant professor of human services and psychology at Beacon College, America’s first accredited baccalaureate college or university to award bachelor’s degrees primarily to students who learn differently. Jessica Leigh Levin quoted her liberally in her October 2017 release, Everyone Has Sh*t: Unsolicited Advice for Being Human.
