Beacon College is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition by artist Dustin Boise, which will be on display through November 21st in the Kristin Michelle Mason Art Gallery. This exhibition, titled “Bored,” will feature installation art.

Born in Oklahoma in 1984, Boise received his MFA from the University of Cincinnati in 2012. He has exhibited throughout the Midwest and now resides and maintains a studio presence in Baltimore, Maryland.

Dustin Boise is a former student of Beacon College Assistant Art Professor and Gallery Director Russ Bellamy. Boise visited the campus this past spring to learn more about the newly accredited Studio Arts program and to act as the guest judge for the College’s first juried student art show. Boise was impressed with the quality of the student artwork exhibited by these students, all of whom have been diagnosed with a learning disability and/or ADHD, and he readily agreed to return to exhibit his own work.

In his artist statement, Dustin Boise declares, “Combining mundane materials with great wit and craft I express the intimate relationship between the world of material objects and the imagination… Materials and idea are interchangeable as to what comes first, yet the idea originates from researching current or past issues, events, and quotes within the American contemporary landscape. Ultimately I stimulate viewers, through the reprocessing of familiar objects and ideas, to step back and approach the everyday from an alternative perspective.”

Gallery Director Russ Bellamy says, “We are privileged to showcase the work of an artist of Dustin’s caliber. This will be a good learning experience for students in the Studio Arts field, who will gain an appreciation for the work that goes into a professional exhibition and an understanding for the types of experimental art forms that work well in the gallery setting.” The Studio Arts program at Beacon College offers traditional art mediums, such as painting and stained glass, but there is an emphasis on more experimental art forms, including performance art, sculpture, and installation art.

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The opening reception will be held on Friday, August 29th from 4-6pm. More information may be found on our Website: https://www.beaconcollege.edu/kristin-michelle-mason-art-gallery/
