Student Art Winners Announced

Beacon College Student Art Show


The second annual Beacon College Student Art Show opened on Thursday, April 16th in the Kristin Michelle Mason Art Gallery. At a reception held that evening, the winners were announced by Studio Arts Professor Russ Bellamy, after reading a statement by artist Sara Bruce, who acted as the guest judge for this exhibition. Cash awards were presented to the winning artists.

Beacon College Student Award Winners:

  • Best of Show: Shaheed Nu’Man, “The Dogon Ratio”
  • Best 3D: Alex Parker Jones, “Constructed Connection”
  • Best 2D: David Neal, “Crossed Gloves”
  • Honorable Mentions:
    • David Dietrick, “Crossroads”
    • Chris Padilla, “Dreams of a Predator”
    • Jay Savey, “Home”
    • Jessica Layne, “Growth of Struggles and Strengths”
    • Chalitza Cortes, “Growing Into My Path”

     
    The exhibition is available for viewing through May 2nd, 2015.

Beacon College Arts Festival High School Exhibition


As part of the Beacon College Arts Festival, students and art teachers from four area schools- Leesburg, Mount Dora, Tavares, and Umatilla- were invited to submit artwork for inclusion in a gallery exhibition in Burbank Hall. In a public reception and awards ceremony held on Saturday, April 18th, cash awards and plaques were presented to the winning student artists, and award winning teachers received gift certificates totaling $1,000 to DK Art Supply & Custom Framing.

Student Awards:

  • Best of Show: Hannah Austin, “Fleur,” Mount Dora High School
  • Best 2D: Angelica Brown, “Dance Struggles,” Tavares High School
  • Best 3D: Sadie Shipes, “Woodland ‘T’ Pot,” Umatilla High School
  • Honorable Mentions:
    • Katie Hacic “Rust,” Mount Dora High School
    • Elizabeth Burry “Voodoo Daddy,” Leesburg High School
    • Brittney NeSmith, “Up the Lighthouse,” Tavares High School

    Teacher Awards:

    • 1st: Gary Hopcraft, Wouda Wouda Buddha in Aimee’s Garden, Umatilla High School
    • 2nd: Caryn Goldstein, “Dervish Dancer,” Mount Dora High School
    • 3rd: Melissa Padilla, “Barnacle Ewer,” Leesburg High School
