Beacon Salon Lecture Series – Dr. Leigh Camacho Rourks

Reading from Moon Trees and Other Orphans

Moon Trees and Other Orphans, winner of the 2018 St. Lawrence Book Award, is a gritty collection of short stories that explore themes of isolation, family, violence, and loss. Written in the Southern Gothic and Grit Lit traditions, the stories are set in the swamps, rural lands, and suburbs of South Louisiana. The collection is filled with down and out characters searching for an easier life along a Gulf Coast whose economy and eco-systems are struggling.
