Ten intrepid cyclists will put Beacon’s pride on the line — and their endurance to the test — Saturday as they participate in The Villages Regional Hospital Auxiliary Foundation’s 3rd annual Hearts for Our Hospital Big Bike Challenge. The Big Bike Challenge is a fundraiser and is a ride not a race. Tomorrow morning, Team […]
Computers function using binary code, a base-2 numeric system.
Base-2 seemed apropos recently considering two Dell Technologies recruiters spent two days on campus recruiting a pair of Beacon College students for summer internships at the Texas-based computer giant — all thanks to a Beacon parent paving the way.
“Student will accrue evidence of their abilities, and will make critical professional contacts to use when future employers ask for them,” says Esteban Lopez, director of corporate and academic outreach at Beacon College.
A new book that is part insider’s guide to Beacon College and part primer on strategies for teaching students with learning disabilities (LD) was recently published. Dear Members of the Beacon College Community: Recently we have been witness to the tremendous destructive power of Mother Nature. The Beacon community includes several students from the U.S. […]
With Hurricane Irma threatening to ground Florida weekend air traffic, 28 students who form the inaugural class for Beacon College’s “Beacon in Tuscany” global education program took to the road by bus Thursday afternoon on a 15-plus hour trek to John F. We are all heavy-hearted by the devastating aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in Texas. This epic event hits particularly hard among the Beacon community, as several of our students hail from the Houston area. As are many across America, Beacon is making a financial contribution to the relief efforts. Beyond this institutional commitment, we will provide an opportunity for individual members of the campus community to make a contribution as a supplement to the College’s gift. Our thoughts and prayers are with these students and their families as they deal with the immediate repercussions and long-term consequences of the storm.
Fitness, fun, and philanthropy will compete neck and neck during the Second Annual Beacon College Navigators 5K Run and Walk October 7 at Venetian Garden in Leesburg, Fla. Last year’s race attracted 126 racers. Only 86 competed in the race, however, after Hurricane Matthew forced the school to shift the race to February. Ortelio Bosch, of Savannah, Ga., the overall winner, completed the 3.1-mile race in 21:50.17. Brienne Sharff, 34, of Eustis, Fla., the fastest female finisher (and sixth-best overall), clocked in at 25:39.42.
Beacon College recently acquired downtown Leesburg property vital to the school’s plans for expansion and upgrading the learning environment for students. On July 10, school officials purchased two lots for $399,000 from George M. Mathew and Lourdes M. Mathew, trustees of the George M. Mathew Family Trust and the Lourdes M. Mathew Family Trust. The […]
