Job Description
To prepare and close sensory spaces Monday through Friday including maintenance of the following spaces for RAP, The Green Space of Counseling Center, and The Sensory Room in Counseling Center. Student employees will report to Occupational Therapist weekly regarding updates and support for spaces as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
RAP 3rd Floor
- Pour between 3-4 gallons of water into fountain 2x a week. Two gallons can be deposited on Tuesday and 1-2 gallons deposited on Fridays.
- Charge cube lights.
- Maintain batteries in lanterns.
- Place pillows around room in an inviting and purposeful way.
- Apply drops of oil to wall spin 1x a semester to help with care and maintenance.
- Student report any breaks, messes, or concerns to supervising Occupational Therapist who will then report to facilities.
- Maintain and update bulletin board semesterly regarding rules and highlights of sensory room use.
- Maintain a log of weekly maintenance tasks pertaining to space and update shared reporting with OT.
Counseling Center Front Porch
- Turn on/off ambient lighting.
- Add 1-gallon 3x a week to front porch fountain not exceeding the hole at the base where wires run through as this will cause it to overflow.
- Unplug fountain at 6:30 p.m.
- Water plants when soil is dry or if the glass containers need water. This should occur on average 1x a week. Summer or warmer months may influence this to require more watering.
- Adjust signs to be upright or fix to add message if it has been removed or smudged.
- Adjust seasonal décor with items provided available. Storage of these items include plant and fountain maintenance and can be found in the sensory room closet.
- Maintain a data log of weekly maintenance tasks pertaining to space and update shared reporting with OT.
Sensory Room at Counseling Center
- Pour ½ gallon of tap water into fountain 3x a week to keep water level high enough for running.
- Unplug fountain at 6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
- Make sure canoe of sensory room is blown up.
- When in sensory space, adjust bolsters and pillows to be put in place as well as weighted items in baskets to decrease tripping and improve availability of use for students.
- Straighten items on the shelf and replace batteries with timer as needed.
- Charge breathing Budda to be ready for use. Charge could be applied 1x a month.
- Plug in bubble light and occasionally fill with water as needed leaving about 2 inches of space at the top.
- Gather curtains to be ready for next use.
- Adjust shades to be same height for more cohesive look.
- Maintain water in glass containers to be filled ½ way for plants.
- Re-apply wall art if fallen off the walls or notify OT if damaged.
Skills and Qualifications
- Manage time to open and close facility spaces.
- Communicate with occupational therapist regularly by email.
- Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Lift at least 10 pounds at chest or head height.
- Be able to use air pump to fill sensory canoe.
- Be able to tolerate touch of plants, soil, water, and other potential various textures.
- Unplug and plug cords in.
- Open jugs of water and other small liquid containers.
- Be helpful and courteous to other students.
