Position Overview:
This position is intended to provide the opportunity to learn proper research procedures and techniques and assist the department with other research needs. The supervising faculty are responsible for providing ongoing feedback and a formal assessment at the conclusion of the assistantship.
Primary Functions:
Under the supervision of faculty members, the Research Assistant is responsible for assisting the faculty members in a variety of tasks which may include entering data, preparing resources, equipment, materials for the research, documenting results, etc. in support of the department activities.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Prepare and maintain datasets for present and future projects
- Establish accurate database for all research programs
- Locate peer-reviewed journal articles
- Develop and maintain professional relationship with local and nonprofit associations and assist in collection of data for various proposal grants
- Participate in local meetings and conferences and recommend methods to compile and analyze data effectively
- Develop research proposals, prepare progress reports and assist in publication of same
- Assist with the Research Fair
Requirements:
- Work attendance and preparation
- Research assistants are expected to work out a schedule with the faculty member.
- An average of 5 hours of work is expected for this position. Knowledge and oral/written communication skills to discuss and document research progress.
- Ability to work independently, accurately and to problem solves technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research.
- Ability to apply sound research techniques, methodology and logical critical analysis.
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills.
