Job Description
Peer Success Apprentices are students in training who support Peer Success Navigators as they learn to guide, support, and connect fellow students to success at Beacon College. Apprentices work under the close supervision of professional staff and experienced Peer Success Navigators while developing foundational skills in peer mentoring, communication, and campus engagement. This role emphasizes learning, observing, and guided practice, with the goal of preparing Apprentices to apply for the Peer Success Navigator role in a future semester.
Peer Success Apprentices support student success through guided participation in Pathways to FRIENDS programming and The Beacon Experience course. They assist with classroom activities, peer engagement, and program logistics while completing required training and reflective
learning activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
Learning and Training
- Participate in all required training and orientation sessions
- Attend ongoing weekly training meetings with Peer Success Navigators and staff
- Observe peer mentoring sessions, group activities, and campus events
- Complete reflections or learning check-ins as part of the training process
Program and Classroom Support
- Assist Peer Success Navigators during The Beacon Experience classes by helping with materials, attendance, and group activities
- Support students during workshops, group sessions, and Pathways to FRIENDS events
- Help prepare and distribute materials for classes, workshops, or events
- Provide basic logistical support (setup, check-in, clean-up) for mentoring activities
Peer Engagement
- Model positive, respectful, and inclusive behavior in academic and social settings
- Help welcome and engage students during events and group activities
- Support Peer Success Navigators in fostering a welcoming and connected environment
- Refer questions or concerns to Peer Success Navigators or staff as appropriate
Skills and Qualifications
- Current Beacon College student in good academic standing
- Interest in leadership, mentoring, or student engagement
- Reliable, punctual, and willing to learn
- Comfortable working with peers in a supportive, structured environment
- Strong communication skills and openness to feedback
Preferred Qualifications
- Interest in becoming a Peer Success Navigator in a future term
- Current GPA of 3.0 or above
- Previous experience as a mentee in a peer mentoring program
- Positive attitude and ability to model appropriate behavior in group settings
- Willingness to reflect on personal growth and skill development
