Job Description
This student position provides hands-on support for campus network infrastructure under the direct supervision of internal IT staff. The role is designed to offer practical experience in maintaining and monitoring network components while ensuring compliance with institutional standards and security protocols.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Basic understanding of network hardware including switches, routers, and access points
- Familiarity with Wi-Fi technologies and troubleshooting connectivity issues
- Ability to assist with cable management, device labeling, and inventory tracking
- Exposure to network monitoring tools and documentation practices
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to follow technical guidance from IT supervisors
- No direct responsibility for Windows or macOS systems; focus is strictly on infrastructure components
Skills and Qualifications
- Basic understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, subnets, and VLANs
- Familiarity with network hardware such as switches, routers, and wireless access points
- Awareness of Wi-Fi technologies and common troubleshooting techniques
- Ability to follow structured technical instructions and document work accurately
- Strong organizational skills for tasks like cable management and equipment labeling
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tools and procedures under supervision
- Effective communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with IT staff
- Currently enrolled as a student at the institution (preferably in a technology-related program)
- Must be authorized to work on campus under student employment guidelines
