Position Overview:
The Science of Animal Welfare TA (lecture and lab) will be familiar with the scientific measurement of animal welfare in varying contexts, including research and captivity. Must be knowledgeable about topics that will include physiological measurements of animal well-being, quality of life, and basic introduction to the laws regulating animal use.
Primary Functions:
TA will help regulate and orient the classroom at the direction of the instructor, will be called to at times aid in assessment of students within the classroom setting, and will play an active role in practicals. TAs will assist in the care of the Anthrozoology animal collection.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- TA must attend each session of lecture and lab as outlined on the course syllabus, unless excused by the instructor. If they cannot, they should advise the instructor.
- TA is expected to set a schedule and be available within reason to help tutor and/or provide group study sessions for students working on assignments outside of class.
- TA may be needed to set up the classroom or lab for the instructor at times.
- TA may need to take time out of their own schedules to establish or refresh training relationships and demonstrate care toward the lab collection of animals.
Requirements:
TA will have already taken both Principles of Animal Husbandry AND Science of Animal Welfare Lecture and Lab and passed with a grade no less than a B average in both courses. Student must demonstrate appropriate tone and set boundaries for/with students. TA must have a good working relationship with present animal collection.
