Beacon College Expands “The Beacon Promise” Capital Campaign Goal to $14.5 Million

Campaign Has Raised 89% of the Goal

Beacon College, the nation’s first accredited baccalaureate institution in the nation for students with learning differences, announced that it is expanding the goal of its historic capital campaign by $2.5 million.

Initially introduced in April 2023 with a $12 million goal, “The Beacon Promise” campaign’s overwhelming success has inspired the institution to increase its goal to $14.5 million by June 2026. To date, the campaign has secured a total of $12.9 million – 89% of the expanded campaign goal.

“Extending the campaign is a clear indication of the incredible momentum the college is generating,” said President George Hagerty. “I am heartened by the support of so many incredible people who are deeply committed to our distinct mission.”

The additional $2.5 million will be dedicated to enhancing the centerpiece of the campaign, the planned 28,000-square-foot Intramural & Fitness Center, set to break ground later this year. The now $11 million Intramural & Fitness Center will include two university-regulation basketball courts, a well-equipped fitness center, a one-tenth mile running track, dedicated space to host social gatherings and club meetings, and more.

“With over 70% of our students participating regularly in fitness, intramural, recreation and competitive athletic programming, it is critical that we provide this facility to enhance our student community’s physical wellness and quality of life,” said President Hagerty. “Exercise and physical activity for the neurodivergent is essential in fostering self-confidence, focus, mental health, and discipline. I am grateful for the support of so many and their help bring this much needed facility closer to reality.”

In addition to the Intramural & Fitness Center, “The Beacon Promise” capital campaign also focuses on two other priorities critical to student success:

  • Establishment of a $2 million scholarship endowment, aimed at helping Beacon’s most in-need students pay for their education.
  • Dedication of $1.5 million for academic enhancements to complete Beacon’s Academic Mall and expand its footprint in downtown Leesburg.

“Our innovative and unique learning environment captures our mission and our evolution as a transformational institution of higher education,” said President Hagerty. “The priorities of this capital campaign reflect Beacon’s daily campus academic and living experiences. We value all those who are investing in Beacon’s future by providing our students an academic home that connects them to a college community empowering them to reach their full potential.”
