For the first time ever, Beacon College is holding an Arts Festival that is open to the public. It will begin on April 16th with day time activities geared toward local high school students and an evening reception intended for the College community to celebrate the opening of the Beacon student art show. On Saturday, April 18th, the public is welcome to attend special arts related activities, including workshops taught by professors Bellamy, Galyon, and Watters.
During the festival, there will be exhibitions of local high school students’ art work, as well as exhibits for Beacon College student and alumni artwork. Regional high school students wanting their work in the festival can submit up to three pieces for consideration. Cash prizes are being awarded, and the winners will be announced at a reception to be held on Saturday from 4-6pm.
On Saturday, April 18, there will be hands on workshops that the community can take part in. These include Life Casting, where you will make a mold of your hand. The workshops are free and open to the public, but advanced registration is required.
Other fun arts related activities are currently being planned. Mr. Bellamy, Professor of Studio Arts, says, “My hope is to set up an installation in the Burbank building where we have a live wall or canvas where we can come in and work on it with pans and paint, and it will be a large collaborative piece of artwork.”
Beacon students will also be helping out in the Art Festival. They will be assisting workshop participants and members of the community visiting campus for the event. Mr. Bellamy says, “I think it will be very good experience for them to work with the public and assisting with teaching younger students.”
The Arts Festival will be a good opportunity to alert the community about the incredible talent we have at Beacon College. We want to inform the community that a learning disability does not deter from talent and creativity and may even help enhance it. We also want the community and local high school students to take part in the fun we have here at Beacon College and experience it for themselves.
Don’t let the April Arts Festival pass you by. Check out the gallery exhibits and participate in the arts activities. Come and experience the beginning of Beacon College first community art festival with us. The complete schedule of events can be found here. We look forward to seeing you!
