How did you come to work with students who learn differently?

As an educator in the area of reading, my classroom has always been filled with students who have diverse learning needs. My passion for igniting the power of reading within all students led me to Beacon College. I believe that Arnold Schwarzenegger best described my teaching philosophy in his quote, “You can’t climb the ladder of success with your hands in your pockets.” The most important aspect of my teaching is ensuring each student feels safe and comfortable to take risks and participate in the learning process. By creating an environment that is supportive and welcoming, students engage in rich discussion, authentic activities, and purposeful assessment. My lessons are developed with multimodal strategies (visual, auditory, reading/writing, kinesthetic, and technology) to address the multiple learning styles of my students In my classroom, all students, regardless of their specific learning needs, are provided a strong foundation to promote success and growth. I believe in the vision created by Beacon College which empowers students to transform their future.
