Director of Communications

Beacon College was the first undergraduate institution in the United States accredited to award bachelor degrees exclusively to students with learning disabilities and/or ADHD. We are committed to student success, offering academic and personal support services that help each student achieve his/her life goals. Beacon is currently recruiting for a Director of Communications, reporting to the Vice President of Institutional Development and Communications.

The Director of Communications will have overall management and supervisory responsibility for external and internal communication functions at Beacon College including branding and messaging, website content, social media, media relations, photography, and preparation and editing of external and internal communications. The Director will coordinate marketing strategy, leading and overseeing all strategic communication planning and implementation with direction from the Vice President to insure consistency, messaging, presentation, and standards The Director will develop website content on both Beacon internet and intranet sites, design, track and report on key performance metrics of the website and other public relations efforts, oversee and approve publications and web-based communications by other departments, as well as oversee, approve and manage all related social media sites. The Director will write/edit and manage the creative process for a range of content pieces across traditional and new media platforms, including coordination of photography and videography efforts, preparation of all press releases and internal communications, as well as being a supportive member of the Development team and the College as a whole.

Qualifications: Requires a Bachelor’s degree and preferably a Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, or a related field and a minimum of three years’ experience in public relations, preferably in a higher education.

Outstanding writing/editing and verbal skills, including experience in writing press releases and articles. Experience with website content editing and effectiveness evaluation. Familiarity with WordPress and other current and emerging technologies, as well as social media outlets. Ability to effectively handle confidential information and to professionally represent the College to a variety of internal and external constituencies.

Library Media Technical Assistant

Beacon College is currently recruiting for a full-time Library Media Technical Assistant to provide library services including evening and weekend hours, reporting to the Director of Library Resources.

Responsibilities: The Library Technical Assistant will perform first point of contact duties in greeting faculty, staff, students and the general public and will; assist faculty and students in locating needed information via the OPAC and library databases; supervise work-study students and the library in general during evening and weekend hours; create Libguides to support the College curriculum; provide basic technological support to copiers, printers, scanners, Mac and PC computers in the library; assist students with computer software, including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Powerpoint, Publisher, WordQ and Dragon Speak; promptly shelf or re-shelf books and other materials; checking shelves to be sure books are in proper order; check library materials in and out; perform opening and closing procedures for the library on evenings and weekends.

Tentative Scheduled Hours:
Mon, Tues, Weds: 12pm-8pm
Saturday: 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Sunday: 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m

Qualifications: College degree required. Previous library experience is a significant advantage. Sound understanding of library technology and previously described software. Requires a customer service orientation plus strong organizational and communication skills.

Dining Services Openings

Do you have a passion for food, enjoy a fast paced environment and working with a great team? Beacon College has several opening within our professional Dining Services department.

Dining Services Assistants — Full-time and Part-time position available

Responsibilities: Maintain cleanliness of equipment and work area, maintain a clean and professional appearance at all times, provide food prep assistance, wash and restock dishes, assist at serving station and work special events.

Line Cooks – Full-time and Part-time positions available

Responsibilities: Assist kitchen staff members in daily food preparation and production of meals by prepping ingredients and assembling dishes according to established kitchen standards and specifications. Qualifications: High School Diploma previous commercial cooking experience preferred.

Cashier – Navigator Café – Part-time Positions Available

Responsibilities: Greet customers, take orders, cash out customers, keep a clean work area and maintain a professional appearance at all times. Qualifications: High School Diploma, previous cashier, retail or customer service experience preferred
