Assistive Technology
![]()
Students entering Beacon College are introduced to assistive technology through the Orientation Program. In addition, the Introduction to Computer Information Systems course demonstrates the assistive technology capabilities of Microsoft Windows and the Office Suite. Students in the College Success course research their learning disability and identify ways to compensate for their learning disability through certain types of assistive technology. The College provides the required hardware and software to support the latest versions of assistive technology. Examples of high-tech assistive technology available in The Writing Center and on various workstations throughout campus include:
The above software may be used in conjunction with course materials. Students are provided notes and course syllabi from instructors electronically. Many courses also have textbook(s) available in electronic format. Learning Specialists demonstrate various low tech assistive technologies that improve study skills. Some of these low-tech devices include highlighters, magnifiers, colored paper, and colored note cards to name a few. As students are evaluated for specific assistive technology that may not be available, Beacon College is committed to acquiring the specific software/hardware or equipment. |
