Library of Congress Classification System

Most college and university libraries use the Library of Congress (LC) classification system instead of the Dewey Decimal system found in many public and school libraries. The LC system uses a combination of letters and numbers to arrange materials on the shelf by subject.

Listed below are the letters and titles of the main classes of the Library of Congress Classification. More detailed information about the breakdown of any subject is available at http://www.loc.gov/catdir/cpso/cpso.html#class
