Hospitality Classes Visit Bohemian Hotel
January 3, 2014
On Monday, December 9th, the Introduction to Business, Restaurant Management, and Hospitality Information Systems classes went on a field trip to the Bohemian Hotel in Celebration, Florida in order to get firsthand insights into what it takes to operate a successful hotel. A total of 12 students, along with Mr. Vaz, visited the property.
The hotel is a Kessler property which belongs to a small group of ten boutique hotels that is part of the Marriott Autograph Collection. The hotel has 115 rooms. Every hotel in the Kessler Collection has its own unique style and ambiance, and the Bohemian is no exception.
Upon arrival the group was met by Ms. Betsy Wirth, the general manager of the property, who began the tour in a conference room where the students were introduced to various department managers: front office, sales and marketing, groups, engineering, catering, housekeeping, and the controller. Students were assigned to various managers and departments and shown these areas, along with the rest of the hotel. Students even had a chance to help the managers with their daily functions.
Everyone enjoyed the trip and learned a lot about what it takes for this type of business to thrive. The hotel executive team was very impressed with the students and are optimistic about working with Beacon in the future.
